When Julia contacted me she described her wedding as being short and sweet, close friends and family with a justice of the peace, set in the trees of the OPPD Arboretum. My heart fluttered a bit when I read her message, it sounded SO similar to my own wedding! I jumped at the chance to document their day, I knew I could highlight all of the details that go in to making an intimate ceremony. I quickly rearranged my schedule and came up with a custom wedding package for their needs. When I was searching for a wedding photographer it became very clear to me that many of them don't have the availability to shoot short weddings during the busy season. They need to book those Saturdays and Sundays with the bigger packages, which is totally okay and I encourage it! I personally have a special place in my heart for the smaller events. Sometimes ceremonies are short, sometimes budgets are stretched, sometimes it's an elopement, Whatever the reason, I'm always willing to talk about a custom package. Enough of my rambling, you need to hear about this wedding!
On a chilly November Saturday, Julia and Ryan said "I Do" in front of parents, siblings, friends, and their little boy. The trees were teetering between turning orange or completely bare, leaves covered the ground, and golden orbs decorated the ceremony space. The best man crafted the bouquet and boutonnieres, while the maid of honor created the cake. Everyone pitched in to make Juila and Ryan's day perfect allowing us a large chunk of time to get through our shot list and a senior mini session for Julia's sister. You'll see her on the blog later! To sum it up, I was able to photograph a beautiful fall wedding, this is why I love my job! Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Backhuus!

November is in full swing and it's time for me to give a huge thank you to all of my wonderful mini session clients! 2017 has been a big year of growth for me and I'm happy to say that I'm booking more sessions than ever. I am so grateful for all of your support, 2018 is going to be a great year for Urban Shutter and I'm excited to share my adventure with you guys! Now, let's get back to those mini sessions. For the past few months I've been incorporating more natural, silly, and romantic prompts and games in my posing directions, it's really helped loosen up my camera shy clients. This round of mini sessions is where I REALLY noticed a difference. I had a lot of toddlers this fall, and we all know how toddlers can be when there's a stranger with a camera around! By letting the kids run and play, I was able to make a better connection with them, which led to more relaxed smiles and poses. I also focused on the interactions between the parents and their children, whether it was cuddling a cranky baby or catching them at the bottom of the slide at the playground. I didn't want the uncomfortable, perfectly posed, toothy grins anymore. I want to capture memories being made, the goofy faces, the temper tantrums, all of it! I am so proud of every single gallery I delivered this season, I cannot wait for in-home holiday sessions! CategoriesHey there, welcome to my little piece of the internet! This website revamp has been a long and very procrastinated project and I appreciate all of my clients hanging in there while I finished this. Words cannot express the newfound hatred I have for all things website related, and I have SO much respect for web designers after this endeavor. That being said, I'm still working out some kinks. I apologize in advanced for any slow loading times or broken links, this is still a masterpiece in the making!
Back in January, I made the resolution that I would devote more time to my online presence. My facebook, instagram, and website all needed a massive makeover and my business needed a little re-branding magic. You see, when I first started I so eager to get into the photography world that I shot everything under the sun. Family portraits, seniors, maternity, birth, newborn, milestones, parties, engagements, weddings, models... you get the idea. I completely burned myself out. I was stretching my creative brain to the limits and exhausting myself between planning and shooting. I took a bit of a hiatus to focus on my fashion and cosplay work. It was a welcomed break from my portrait shooting and gave me time to reflect on the subjects I loved to shoot and what I wanted to market myself as going forward. My husband and I both agreed that we missed our weddings and wanted to revive that side of the business in 2018, we're pretty stoked about it! Did you notice that little cart button on the top of the page? I'll be opening my print shop in November! I'll be offering all kinds of interesting prints from my fashion, cosplay, still life, and landscape portfolio. This shot will be up for sale as soon as that section of the site launches, it's one of my favorite pieces from my art show at Hugo's Art Galleries. (www.hugosartgalleries.org/) |
