My name is Alexandria Herrick and I am a 23 year old fashion and portrait photographer from Omaha, Nebraska. In 2016 I married the love of my life and my second shooter, Brandon. We currently live in Council Bluffs, Iowa with four crazy dogs and my grandmother. We have built Urban Shutter from the ground up and it has been a dream come true for both of us. I absolutely adore what I do and I am a strong supporter of all forms of art, which pushes me to connect and gather inspiration not just from my own ideas and surroundings, but others as well. Outside of photography I enjoy baking, video games, crafting, and a lot of Netflix. I am currently enrolled in pastry school and hope to open an allergen friendly bakery in the future!

A Dream in the Making
I fell in love with photography while working for a corporate studio. While I had no creative control, the feeling of capturing genuine smiles, love, and milestones for families. I was gifted my first SLR for my 20th birthday, but four days later I dislocated my hip, causing my left hip to be reconstructed and I was non-weight bearing for five months. During that time I watched YouTube videos, read books, and studied my camera manual with the goal of being ready to shoot as soon as I could ditch the crutches. Six months after my injury I was shooting my friends and family for my portfolio while discovering my niche in the photography world.

It has taken two long years to find my niche. In the beginning I had no interest in shooting models, fine art, or cosplay. My interest in the more abstract concepts didn't hit me until I was recruited for RAW: Natural Born Artists. My first art show pushed me to explore new areas and now I find myself keeping a note on my phone full of crazy ideas. I have been lucky enough to collaborate with cosplayers, makeup artists, hair stylists, and designers from all over the Midwest, and regularly recruit them for new projects. In the past year I have been published 24 times, both in the US and internationally. Lately I have been focused on the production of my own alternative fashion magazine and I am the exclusive photographer for Hugo's Art Galleries. After taking a year away from the wedding side of the business, Brandon and I are eager to open up Urban Shutter Weddings for 2018!
